BASEL DESIGN SUMMIT

Over fifty creatives at Fossil Group participated in this unique design challenge.

The final two chosen concepts from this challenge were developed within a period of eight months.

The goal was to complete two unique Limited Edition timepieces to be auctioned off at our annual Works of Heart charity event.

I initiated, conceptualized, produced and led this project. My role was to organize and energize our creative community to drive innovation, showcase Fossil’s capabilities, and deliver superior product that supported our charitable giving initiative.

I was also on one of the winning teams with the concept ‘Caged Mechanical’ that was selected for prototyping and auction. Our timepiece raised $2000 at the auction.

Design a rapid brainstorm exercise to help creatives from the 3 global studios connect the dots to find solutions outside the box. Encourage healthy competition and expose the creatives to diverse points of view influenced by regional, brand and individual experiences.

DESIGN BRIEF

DESIGN BRIEF

. Participants were asked to write their observations from walking the Basel fair on IDEA cards. These observations could be written, sketched or constructed.

. Teams were formed by random selection.

. All team members dropped their IDEA cards into a box and each team drew five cards randomly.

. The teams then worked together on a timed challenge to string together the 5 ideas from the IDEA cards they had picked to form a creative brief.

. The 2 best ideas generated from this exercise were to be prototyped and eventually auctioned off at the company’s holiday charity showcase.

A beautiful nesting timepiece that may be worn on the body or displayed in a case. A glass sphere containing a mechanical movement that swivels on a single axis inside the sphere. The sphere is nested within a case that may be suspended or placed on a flat surface.
